Our story

Our story so far

The practice began working out of the GP’s front room as was usual at that time until they moved into Brierfield Health centre just over 40 years ago.

After a few more years the practice outgrew the health centre space which resulted in additional land being secured by the partners. The outcome was the new ‘Pendle View Medical Centre’ 47 Arthur Street where it stands today.

In 1989 Pendle View was opened contained 3 consulting rooms, a health promotion room, and a state-of-the-art treatment room in addition to rooms on the second floor for admin staff and health visitors. Pendle View has always been a forward-thinking practice and overtime the building was remodelled to further increase consulting rooms and maximise space, to optimise patient care.

By the early 2000’s the practice had once again outgrown the building and built another extension to create a larger waiting room and two additional consultation rooms. This also provided a larger staff room and a quiet library for private learning. The additional space was invaluable in order to offer medical students and GP trainees a dedicated space to learn the art of General Practice. This also improved access for patient resulting in increased attendance rates as patients were comfortable coming to familiar surroundings with their trusted GP.

Over the past few years, the practice has continued to grow, recognising the benefits of a multi-disciplinary team to provide co-ordinated patient care. We have a talented team at Pendle View who have patient care at the heart of the services they provide. However, teamworking requires space and in recent years we have struggled for adequate space in the surgery.

Just over 1 year ago the situation became desperate and we had to commission two portacabins to provide further clinical and admin space. This has proved invaluable for our team however, it is not ideal and we are currently looking at solutions to meet demand and increase capacity in order to continuing delivering excellent health care to our patients whilst increasing space to provide other vital services in the practice.
